The ancient stories hidden in the night sky are brought to life in this Stardome produced planetarium show.

Narrated by Lucy Lawless and John Rhys-Davies, join us for an adventure as our stellar navigators explore the night sky and delve into the myths and legends behind the constellations visible in spring.

Not only will you be introduced to fantastic Greek and Māori characters, you will also learn what a constellation is, how they are used for astronomical purposes and where the names of planets come from!

You’ll finish your Stories in the Sky adventure with a short, live-presenter led experience. You’ll learn exactly where the characters from the evening night sky stories are located on the night of your visit, and how you can use them to find nebulae, galaxies, star clusters and planets just by using the stars.

Our perspective of the sky is ever changing, which means we see different constellations and stars as we move through the seasons. For this reason, Spring Stories in the Sky is one of four shows in the Stories series. Each season, the show content changes based on what you can see in the sky around the night of your visit so you can keep coming back to meet new characters.

With stunning 360-degree animations and a good dose of John Rhys-Davis humour, Stories in the Sky is suitable for both the young and the young-at-heart.

Magic Sky brings the magic of the sky closer with fantastic images and delivers facts in a fun way, with songs and introductions to “night-time friends”.

Magic Sky has been specifically created for preschoolers to offer a fun and engaging introduction to the Moon and stars. Children are typically enchanted with what they see in the night sky and our presenters at the Stardome do an excellent job of fostering that interest.

At the end of Magic Sky, you will take a trip into outer space with a tour of the night sky or a special Planetary Fly-by. In the Night Sky show, you’ll gaze up at the universe to learn more about the stars you can see in the sky above us. In the Planetary Fly-by, you get to zoom by Jupiter, Mars, Venus and the other solar system planets to explore each planet’s special features.

Please arrive at least 15 minutes early for shows. Late entry into the planetarium is not possible once the show has started.

In this live 360-degree experience, your planetarium presenter will take you on an extraordinary tour of the stars, planets and constellations visible on the night of your visit from our little corner of the globe, Auckland.

Be curious, ask questions, look up, and be amazed as you experience the Auckland night sky in ways you’ve never seen before. As Earth moves through the seasons, the view above us is ever-changing so you’ll get a new perspective on the celestial sights every time you return.

If the weather cooperates, you’ll then get the opportunity to head outside and look through the telescopes to spot the real celestial sights in the skies above. If the weather doesn’t play fair, you’ll receive a rain check voucher to come back another time to experience the telescopes.

Please arrive at least 15 minutes early for shows. Late entry into the planetarium is not possible once the show has started.
