Every year more than 22,000 New Zealanders will learn they have cancer. This is why the Cancer Society must raise more funds each year so it can support as many of these people as possible through their cancer journey.

A listening ear; an information booklet or reputable website; a turban or a beanie to help with hair loss during treatment; practical assistance in navigating our complex and, sometimes, confusing health system; motel-style accommodation for patients receiving treatment or transport by a volunteer driver to reduce the stress of daily travel and provide companionship en-route to medical appointments are among the regular services freely offered by the Cancer Society.

We could not provide these much appreciated services and programmes in the community without your special support of our annual Cancer Society Ball. Your continued endorsement of our work provides hope for those 60.

Why should you wear shorts for Hospice?

As a charity, all of our services are provided at no cost to the patients and their family, but to be able to do this and support our local community we need to raise over $3.7million per year.

Shorts4Hospice is one way we can raise funds and ask for donations in a fun and inclusive way. Every dollar raised from Shorts4Hospice goes towards enabling our team of nurses, doctors, social workers, counsellors and volunteers to ensure we provide the highest standard of palliative care services within our community.
How it works

Friday 21 June is the day when we ask you, your friends and colleagues to wear shorts in support of Waipuna Hospice.

Get out your brightest, boldest, biggest, craziest, most trendy shorts and have some fun while raising money for Waipuna Hospice. Register, donate or challenge others to get on board, share your photos on Facebook, decorate the office or create an event or set up Givealittle page to help fundraise! Life is short – make it count!

ABOUT BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS WELLINGTON:

BBBS matches children and young people aged 6 to 12 with mentors in professionally supported one-to-one relationships. BBBS is currently in 13 locations around New Zealand, and helps more than 700 young people each year to reach their potential through professionally supported, mentoring relationships.

Partnering with whānau, schools, businesses and others in the community, BBBS carefully pairs children and young people (aged 6-12 years) with screened, trained volunteer mentors and monitors and supports the matches throughout their course.

Until July 2018, we haven’t had a Wellington branch, so we are keen to raise as much money as we can to hit the ground running, train our mentors and make some incredible matches. Thank you for your support!
